03 Hiring grants

The cost of a work-study student is largely offset by public support schemes and OPCO funding.

Here are the main levers for 2026–2027.

  • Unique hiring grant — €6,000 in the first year for companies with fewer than 250 employees (apprenticeship contract)
  • OPCO funding — full coverage of the training cost according to the NPEC (cost-coverage level)
  • Social contribution exemptions — extended Fillon reduction, URSSAF contribution exemption
  • Apprenticeship tax credit — for certain categories of apprentices
  • Work-study salary — percentage of the SMIC (minimum wage) based on age and qualification level (from 27% to 100%)

Our team supports you in preparing the OPCO application, obtaining the unique hiring grant, and drafting the contract (CERFA FA13).

04 A 4-step process

From defining the role to signing the contract, allow an average of 3 to 6 weeks depending on the period and candidate availability.

  • 1. Pre-registration — you define your requirement (role, level, desired schedule) via our online form. Our work-study team contacts you within 48 hours.
  • 2. Matching — we identify 2 to 4 compatible candidates for your position; you receive their profiles and conduct the interviews.
  • 3. Contracting — signing of the CERFA FA13 contract (apprenticeship) or CERFA EJ20 (professionalisation), registration with the OPCO and the DREETS.
  • 4. Academic monitoring — an Enerlab contact maintains the link between your company and the school throughout the programme (visits, progress reviews, assessments).

05 Calendar 2026–2027

Two main intakes each year, with intermediate sessions for certain programmes.

Contracts can be signed up to 3 months before the intake date.

  • September / October 2026 intake — pre-registrations open from March 2026, contracts to be signed before end of November
  • February / March 2027 intake — pre-registrations from October 2026, contracts to be signed before end of March
  • Intermediate sessions — available for CAP and short certifications (3–6 months)

Good to know: the best candidates are placed early.

Plan your requirements 4 to 6 months in advance to have the widest choice.

06 Frequently asked questions

What is the real cost of a work-study student for my company?

For a 20-year-old BTS apprentice in their first year, the net cost to the employer (including contributions, after the €6,000 unique grant for companies with fewer than 250 employees) is typically around €3,000 to €5,000 over the year.

The training cost is fully covered by the OPCO.

Our team can provide you with a precise simulation based on the specific profile.

Is my company eligible for apprenticeship?

Any private or public sector company (excluding central civil service) can hire on an apprenticeship contract, regardless of size.

One condition: designating an apprenticeship mentor (maître d'apprentissage) with 3 years of experience in the target profession.

For professionalisation contracts, a mentor is not mandatory but a tutor is recommended.

What is the difference between apprenticeship and professionalisation?

Apprenticeship is open to 16–29-year-olds (no age limit for workers with disabilities), benefits from the €6,000 unique grant, and leads to a recognised qualification.

Professionalisation is open to 16–25-year-olds plus job seekers of any age, is more flexible, and can target an RNCP title or a branch-level certification.

Both can fund our BTS, Master's, and certification programmes.

Can I hire a work-study student on a part-time or permanent basis?

No — apprenticeship and professionalisation contracts are full-time and fixed-term (for the duration of the training).

They can, however, be extended or followed by a permanent contract upon completion.

If you need a different arrangement, tell us about your requirement and we will guide you towards the right scheme.

Does my OPCO need to be notified in advance?

Yes — the contract must be submitted to your OPCO within 5 days of signing.

The OPCO validates the NPEC and triggers the funding.

Our team can help you identify your OPCO (CONSTRUCTYS, AKTO, OPCO 2i, AFDAS, ATLAS, etc.) and put together the application.
